چکیده

The fluid-flow paradigm is an alternative approach to the traditional queueing paradigm, where workload movement in a network is described in terms of a fluid metaphor rather than the familiar customer metaphor. Stochastic fluid network models can considerably speed up the simulation of complex flow networks, such as high-speed packet-based telecommunications networks, where traditional queueing-based simulation routinely gives rise to enormous numbers of events. Furthermore, they are also amenable to fast, nonparametric, and unbiased estimation (unlike traditional queueing) of IPA (Infinitesimal Perturbation Analysis) gradients (derivatives of performance measures with respect to various parameters), which may be used to make decisions on network design, replenishment, management or control. This paper outlines the design of a fluid-oriented hybrid simulator admitting both packet flows and fluid flows. It focuses on the fluid processing design and on efficiency issues.

Mathematical Simulation for the Effects of Flow Control Devices in a Six- strand Tundish in Continuous Casting of Steel Billet

The method of continuous casting of steel is now often used in the metallurgical industry, due to the increasing demand for the production of high – quality steel. An important device of continuous casting machine is the tundish, in which a stabilized steel flow has a crucial effect on the quality and efficiency conditions of the continuous casting process. In this study fluid flows in a six – ...

Numerical simulation of a three-layered radiant porous heat exchanger including lattice Boltzmann simulation of fluid flow

This paper deals with the hydrodynamic and thermal analysis of a new type of porous heat exchanger (PHE). This system operates based on energy conversion between gas enthalpy and thermal radiation. The proposed PHE has one high temperature (HT) and two heat recovery (HR1 and HR2) sections. In HT section, the enthalpy of flowing high temperature gas flow that is converted to thermal radiation em...

Multiphase flow and tromp curve simulation of dense medium cyclones using Computational Fluid Dynamics

Dense Medium Cyclone is a high capacity device that is widely used in coal preparation. It is simple in design but the swirling turbulent flow, the presence of medium and coal with different density and size fraction and the presence of the air-core make the flow pattern in DMCs complex. In this article the flow pattern simulation of DMC is performed with computational fluid dynamics and Fluent...

Parallel Hybrid Network Traffic Models

Fluid-based network traffic models are attractive due to their execution efficiency. They run much faster than the corresponding discrete-event packet-oriented simulation, especially when we study the aggregate traffic behavior of large-scale network scenarios. The efficiency, however, comes at a cost—fluid modeling does not include packet-level details. The ability to accurately capture the in...

Simulation of IPA gradients in hybrid network systems

Infinitesimal Perturbation Analysis (IPA) provides formulas for derivatives (gradients) of performance measures with respect to parameters of interest, computed from sample paths of stochastic systems. In practice, IPA derivatives may be computed either from simulation runs or from empirical field data (when the formulas are non-parametric). Nonparametric IPA derivatives in fluid-flow queues ha...
